Who are we?
The tea sommelier is the story of a passion born in the late 80s. He was only 15 at the time, with a head full of dreams, including that of mastering the art of tea ... Who would have thought that I would be destined to make a living from my passion. But first, let me tell you about the beginning. In the seventies, my family moved from India to Belgium. Used to drinking black tea, my parents started their day with a good cup of black tea with milk. Here, although black tea was already available in the shops, my parents always complained about the quality of the tea and the way it was packaged in tea bags. To make 1 cup of tea in a saucepan, Mum would often use 2 or even 3 tea bags. These teabags contained what is known today as Tea Dust. Tea was already a family affair, as it was often the subject of debate and disappointment after each preparation. It was during my first holiday in India in the summer of 1985 that I finally understood the importance of this beverage when I saw my parents taking exquisite pleasure in tasting their masala chai in the company of their respective families...
My parents were savouring every sip of this drink that they had missed so much, so I knew the importance of taste and the happiness it could bring. It was then that I was seduced by tea. I started to discover teas with different flavours: passion fruit, peach, mint, etc., always in bags, and despite the attractive packaging, I noticed that the tea wasn't exceptional. So I said to myself that one day I would devote myself to learning the finer points of this beverage and take the time to make my own blends. I started to do just that, and thanks to a much more promising market with the arrival of loose tea in specialist shops, I said to myself: "Why not make a living from this passion and open a place where you can find quality tea? A quality product means a healthy product, a beverage free of heavy metals and organically produced. So I started collecting quality teas and offering them in various shops that wanted to offer their customers quality products, as I did. Gradually, I opened my first tea shop in Beaumont (Belgium) because I wanted to be closer to France and sell my teas there.
But to my To my surprise, the shop was so successful that I had to give up my conquest of France. After a few happy years in Beaumont, we needed more space. So we decided to move to Couillet, route de Philippeville near Loverval. Covid19. The start of the pandemic in Belgium. March 2020 also marks the start of our new adventure in our new shop. After a difficult period and thanks to the support of our customers, especially those in Beaumont, whom we can never thank enough, we have survived and decided to take another step forward. These uncertain times have prompted us to launch our online store. I hope that you will find the site to your complete satisfaction. I'd like to thank our customers, who have kept us going despite this pandemic.
